In American Studies, we are dealing with the many narratives Americans have developed to explain their identity, conflicts, and dreams. Stories like those of the West or the Melting Pot have been told many times from varying points of view by the groups making up American society, including Native Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, or Hispanic Americans. We are interested in the perspectives of gender and sexuality as well as transatlantic and global networks. The stories we study take many forms: historical and contemporary, literary, oral, and visual, high brow and popular. We study migration, the American South, comic books, as well as U.S. presidencies and are organizing student exchanges to the U.S. This leads to diversity in our research and classes where you will often meet students from the States, but also American instructors.
